Tarpon fishing is almost non-existent in our area now, as the fall patterns are beginning to emerge. Snook season reopened last month and have cooperated well, look for these fish to begin moving back to the creeks and rivers and deeper channels in preparation for winter months. Redfish have been schooling up in traditional areas with slot size fish easily taken most days. Trout fishing is picking up with keeper and oversize trout in the mix.
Kingfish should be making the fall showing and should be in the area through this month as well as most of next month. Mangrove snapper has been a good staple on most trips, with 20 inch and larger fish being taken. Grouper should start to move in closer as the days get shorter and the water temps begin to cool down.
I have already begun to book my 2008 tarpon season with regular clients as well as some new inquiries. Just to remind everyone May and June are prime months, and have received a lot of TV coverage over the past several years. This has had a positive affect on booking. It also seems that people are booking earlier every year.
I have also acquired an online travel agency to assist clients in making travel arraignments. A full service-booking agency for airline, hotel, car rentals, cruises and any other travel or vacation packages, for all your needs. Please consider shopping and comparing on our site.

With the first cold front that passed and the shorter days the water temps are climbing down and snook know to fatten up for the winter when during cold fronts they will lay up for days with out eating. Snook are being taken in good numbers all across Charlotte Harbor with slot size fish being the normal.
Redfish should be on the move towards winter flats where on a sunny day after a cool morning you will be able to find them tailing for food and warming up in the sun.
Kingfish are stlii being caught close to shore along with grouper snapper and a few cobia.

Fall Approach
With the first hint of fall arriving this weekend in Southwest Florida fishing should be about as good as it gets. Water temps are falling and fish are becoming more aggressive. Schools of redfish are scattered through out the area. Look for tailers on a low tide then work the bars on a rising tide.
Snook fishing is improving as these linesiders move back to the winter haunts. River mouths, island points, tidal creeks with good moving water should produce. Snook are fattening up for the winter and will take most offerings if presented correctly. If the fish you have found aren’t eating try tackling down and finesse fishing to entice a strike
King fish should start moving south and the runs in our area have been bigger and better each year. However near shore fish have been seriously affected by what seems to be an everlasting redtide bloom, pushing these fish and the bait they eat further offshore. Start looking for water temps in the mid to lower 70’s with a good hard bottom and bait, you should have success.

The Bite Heats Up
Spring is all but on us and the Snook are moving out of the rivers and starting to feed. With signs of live bait starting to show Snook fishing will only improve. Top water early in the morning on high tides and at night near docks and lighted bridges for the keepers. Trout fishing has been great and has improved each year. Big gator trout are becoming the norm and will take about any offering form live shrimp under a popping cork to a plastic jig of most any color. Redfish have been hit and miss with several schools moving up on the bars on a rising tide in the northern part of the harbor. But some days they just don’t show.
Tarpon fishing is just around the corner and fast approaching. I am taking inquires daily and booking up quickly i still have numerous days left but I have a lot more trips on the book this year at this time than for the same time last year. Most good tarpon guides book up prior to the season. So weather you are considering fishing with me or any of the other numerous veteran tarpon guides I would suggest you start putting your plans together so you don’t get caught searching later.
Kingfish should start making a showing as the water temps begin to rise. The last few years I have seen the fish run further offshore in are area than normal so you may want to start looking at the 10-15 mile mark near the numerous artificial reefs.

Fall fishing is extremely good right now with snook action heating up as the bigger fish move back to winter places. You will find large numbers of big snook at most points where there is good water flow and depth you can do well with the live bait that is plentiful right now as well as with artificial early in the morning or after you fire up the bite with live chummers.

Redfish action is still good with some schools still being found throughout the area. Cut sardines or dead shrimp will bring the school to you once you locate the area. These fish tend to stay put for a short period of time and can disappear and reappear from day to day.

Offshore fishing should be interesting with kingfish making there annual fall run south. Cobia should also be in the mix along with permit and tripletail. These migratory fish seem to have a highway of some sorts on the water and if you can intersect it you can enjoy a well-rounded day on the water. Look at the map and find the reefs and you should be able to determine a route these fish will take. Consistent anglers do their homework before hitting the water it just pays off.

Fishing has been hit and miss this week, with the weather changing from fall to the winter patterns the Redfish and the Snook are on the move. As the water temps. drop these fish tend to move back into the deeper pockets even on the hide tide. Most of the fish caught this week up by the bushes came from deep open spots on the brush. Where we found mangrove overhanging the water 8 ft the fish where 4 ft deep in the overhang this makes for some tuff fishing as the snook can cut you off on the roots in a matter of seconds. The redfish are fairly scattered and if you find a school they won’t be there more than a day. The Kingfish action is heating up pretty nice on the Gulf and I have the annual invitation only Palm Island Tourney coming up the end of this month. Last year I lost my big fish to a barracuda that bit him in half, hopefully I will get the money this year.

I took Dave B. and is father-in-law out this week, this was Dave’s second trip with me this year and I must say that the fist trip was better. We spotted fish all over some of my best spots and they wouldn’t have anything to do with a bait. It can be real frustrating looking at the fish when they aren’t chewing. Sorry Dave we get them when you come back next year.

A much better trip this week was with Fred R. same thing happened to us first thing in the morning lot of fish and nothing biting. After moving about 5 times and throwing handfuls of chum I finally located some decent fish. The redfish where mostly small skate reds but we did manage one nice keeper. After the redfish quite biting the snook immediately took there place. All in all we caught about twenty redfish about ten decent snook and lost one nice snook to a vertical jump that wrapped the leader around his gill plate and cut the line. It was a pretty good day. See you guys at Tarpon season Fred

It’s Kingfish season as the gulf temperatures have started to drop the seasonal Kingfish run is well under way. I been out three times the past two weeks and have managed some nice size fish with a couple of smokers mixed in. they haven’t made a big showing yet, but we found our Kings at about 8 miles out of Boca Grande in 40-45 feet of water. The wind kept us from jigging any live bait so we used a magnum stretch 15 and stretch 30 and trolled over some structure with good results.

Redfish seem to have stopped schooling up as the cold fronts rolled in on us the last few weeks. You can find them tailing on the edge of shallow bars with jigs, spoons taking some good fish. The snook seem to be cooperating well and are moving back on to the flats and backcountry now that the water is a little cooler. Last week i took out a group and we found a huge school of 20+lb Jacks and i had four anglers fighting a fish at the same time. Those jacks can be real fun when they are that big on 8lb test spinning gear. If you want to find you better hurry for the netters do.
