May 5, 2016April Tarpon Fishing Report
April 17, 2017Boca Grande Tarpon Fishing Report
Thank You to everyone who has already booked their trip/trips, the tarpon began showing up last week so get ready. I have some dates still available in April as well as May with June having the most availability, so give me call and lets go catch some Boca Grande Tarpon I expect another great season.
Tarpon fishing is already beginning with Boca Grande Pass seeing some early action on warm days. The major tarpon season runs April-July and these dates are beginning to fill up. There are small thread fin hearing showing up as well as some good size sharks, all an indicator of tarpon arriving in fish-able numbers. I expect a good season with the ample amounts of rain fall from last year and some rain already this year the crab population should be healthy and provide for some good hill tide tarpon trips. The early arrival of threadfin hearing will make for an early jump start to the tarpon fishing season.
Flats Fishing
With the weather pattern improving the fishing has steadily improved the only variable was the cold mornings scattered throughout March that made fishing conditions tough. Along with some slow moving tides some of these mornings made for some seriously tough fishing. On the other end of the spectrum was the nearly 90 degree days where the snook fishing heating up. These snook where hungry and scattered all in the Pine Island Sound and Charlotte Harbor area.
The snook fishing is also as good as I have seen it in over a few years with the season open again taking home a keeper snook is now back on the table.
Fishing Outlook
The bait population is beginning to show up and can be caught in various places. You need to time you start right to catch enough to fish for the day. Bring plenty of chum and get up early. But with the bait the snook fishing has been turning on and great action can be had for those who spend the time it takes to net bait.
King fish are being caught in good numbers offshore and are almost in full northern migration. Other offshore fishing has been good as well, with reports of good grouper, snapper and amberjack fishing.
